2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 Vegas picks and NASCAR predictions: Fade Kyle Larson, back Jimmie Johnson at Atlanta

What we saw at the Daytona 500 last week can be thrown out the window when the 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 gets the green flag on Sunday at 2 p.m. ET at (Atlanta Motor Speedway). There are new car rules and new aerodynamics that will be an integral part of the race strategy on the 1.5-mile speedway after they were a non-factor last week. Kevin Harvick, who won this race last year, is the 4-1 favorite in the latest 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 odds. Joey Logano and Kyle Busch are right behind him at 6-1, while 2019 runner-up Brad Keselowski and Kyle Larson are at 8-1. With so little known about how each car will handle at Atlanta on Sunday, you'll want to see what SportsLine's Micah Roberts is saying before making any 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 picks. He's a legendary Vegas bookmaker and a staple of NASCAR handicapping.

Roberts pioneered wagering on NASCAR races and went with Jimmie Johnson as a hefty 25-1 long shot at the season-opening Advance Auto Parts Clash. The result: Johnson survived a huge crash and went on to win the rain-shortened race as Roberts' followers raked it in. He entered the 2019 NASCAR season after finishing big-time in the black in 2018. In fact, those who wagered $100 on each of his picks last year have $1,750 in profit to show for it.

His biggest wins came when he went against the grain, taking Keselowski at 12-1 to win the South Point 400 at Las Vegas in the opening race of the NASCAR playoffs and going with Logano, also 12-1, to take the First Data 500 at Martinsville. He also nailed four of Harvick's nine series victories and three of Busch's nine wins.

That success continued an astonishing run in which Roberts picked nine of the 10 winners in the 2017 NASCAR playoffs. In 2016, he took Denny Hamlin to win the Daytona 500 at 15-1 and took him again at 40-1 at Watkins Glen later that year. Anyone who's following his picks is up huge.

Now, he has analyzed Sunday's 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 lineup from every possible angle and locked in his 2019 NASCAR at Atlanta picks and NASCAR predictions. One shocker: Roberts is fading is Larson, one of the top Vegas favorites at 8-1 NASCAR at Atlanta odds.

Larson has never won a race on a 1.5-mile track, which includes Atlanta. He finished ninth last year in this event, and Roberts has him even further back on his leaderboard for 2019.

Another curveball: Roberts is again high on Jimmie Johnson, who is going off as a 25-1 long shot in the latest NASCAR at Atlanta odds.

Johnson won the Advance Auto Parts Clash as a 25-1 favorite, and Roberts picked that one to a massive windfall. Johnson has more wins in Atlanta (five) than any other active driver. In Vegas testing prior to the start of the season, Johnson's car was the fastest, indicating he may be more prepared than most for Sunday, especially in a race that won't feature restrictor plates.

"Whenever there have been changes to aero packages, rules, or engines, Hendrick Motorsports has always been at the forefront with an early edge," Roberts told SportsLine. Johnson finished in the top 10 in last week's Daytona 500 after starting in 17th, a marked improvement over his 38th place showing the previous year. Ride Johnson's momentum on Sunday; he's a target for anyone looking for a big payday once again.

Roberts is also projecting three drivers with 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 odds of 25-1 or longer make a strong run at the checkered flag. His picks will shock many, but anyone who backs them could be in line for a massive payday.

So which drivers are must-backs in the 2019 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500? And which underdogs shock NASCAR? Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard from the nation's premier NASCAR handicapper, and find out.

Daytona 500 odds, picks 2019: Advanced computer model says Chase Elliott surprises

Nascar Cup Series kicks off its 2019 season. It's the 61st running of The Great American Race at iconic Daytona International Speedway, with 200 laps of pulse-pounding action sure to entertain hundreds of thousands in attendance and millions watching at home. After wins in their respective qualifying races, Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano join Brad Keselowski as co-favorites at 8-1 in the latest 2019 Daytona 500 odds. Hendricks Motorsports teammates William Byron and Alex Bowman will be on the front row, but their odds are at 40-1 and 30-1, respectively. With so many drivers figuring to contend for the title, you'll definitely want to check out the NASCAR projected leaderboard from SportsLine before you make any 2019 Daytona 500 picks or predictions of your own.

Developed by DFS pro and SportsLine predictive data engineer Mike McClure, this proprietary NASCAR prediction computer model takes factors such as track history and recent results into account.

It made some huge calls in NASCAR last year, including correctly projecting wins for Kyle Busch at Chicago and Martin Truex Jr. at Sonoma. It also nailed three of the top four finishers at Michigan, and two of the top four at last year's Daytona 500. Anybody who followed its picks finished way, way up.

McClure, who has a mechanical engineering degree, grew up around race tracks. Big events like the Daytona 500 are in his blood. And now that the 2019 Daytona 500 lineup is taking shape, his model simulated the event 10,000 times and the results were surprising.

One of the top Daytona 500 2019 picks we'll give away: Chase Elliott challenges to take the checkered flag despite starting with 12-1 odds.

The 23-year-old got his first win last season at Watkins Glen and then went on to pile up two more wins late in the season at Dover and Kansas to finish sixth in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series standings. And he's proven to have a lightning-fast setup at Daytona, winning back-to-back poles for the Daytona 500 in 2016 and 2017.

Unfortunately, crashes in both of the 2018 races at Daytona International Speedway kept him from taking advantage of a fast car. However, if Elliott can avoid the big one in 2019, he can provide exceptional value at 12-1, and the model likes him to finish near the top of the leaderboard after starting the race in 18th.

One surprising pick: Keselowski, one of the Vegas favorites, makes a strong run but falls short of the checkered flag. Keselowski finished eighth in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Standings last season with three wins, and expectations are high for him heading into 2019.

But he's struggled historically at Daytona International Speedway, failing to finish his last four races at this track due to accidents. And though he had a win at this track three years ago, he finished 20th in the Daytona 500 that season. In 19 career races at Daytona, his average finish position is 17th, so there are far better values to win it all than the 8-1 premium he's commanding.

The model is also targeting four drivers with 2019 Daytona 500 odds of 12-1 or longer to make a serious run at winning it all. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — William Byron will start from the pole in the 61st running of the Daytona 500, combining with teammate Alex Bowman to create the youngest front row in the history of "The Great American Race."

Byron is 21, and Bowman is 25. Both are driving Chevrolets for Hendrick Motorsports.

Six Ford drivers will line up behind the Hendrick duo, including defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano. He starts fourth, trying to become the first reigning champ since Dale Jarrett in 2000 to win the season opener.

Defending race winner Austin Dillon starts from the 10th row in the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.

Eight drivers will make their Daytona 500 debuts, with most of them starting in the back of the pack.

It's also the first Daytona 500 since 2011 that doesn't include a female driver. Danica Patrick stepped away from NASCAR after last year's opener.
